Policy Advisor

 

Food and Beverage Ontario, the leadership organization for food and beverage processor businesses in the province, is recruiting for a Policy Advisor. This position will report directly to the CEO and present to the organization’s Board of Directors on issues facing the processing sector and impacting processor businesses in Ontario.

Located in Guelph, Ontario, FBO’s staff team work on behalf of food and beverage processor members to build and promote a highly competitive business environment for all sizes and categories of operations. Researching, analyzing, documenting and commenting on policy and industry-related issues are key to the organization’s success.

 

Specific job functions include, but are not limited to:

Responsibilities:

  • Research and document all aspects of a variety of issues facing the Ontario processing sector
  • Explore policy options and assess how these fit with the positions held by other organizations and with existing federal and provincial government priorities
  • Prepare position papers, briefing notes, submissions and strategy documents for consideration by the CEO and FBO Board of Directors
  • Assist in development and execution of FBO’s government relations strategies
  • Work closely with the FBO staff in the development of coherent and strategic messaging
  • Monitor federal and provincial legislation
  • Act as the FBO representative on specific related industry and government committees;
  • Coordinate documents for the FBO Board of Directors
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • University degree in a related field such as public policy, political science, economics, agri-food or business
  • Experience working on behalf of a Board and/or Board Committees
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, policy analysis and research preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Highly developed analytical abilities and ability to strategically approach a variety of interconnected issues
  • Advanced computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast paced environment
  • A valid Ontario drivers licence
  • Knowledge of the agri-food industry considered an asset
